A God Who Sees
In Genesis Sarah became hasty and
impatient concerning the lord’s promise of a son. God had promised a
son
through Abraham that would come many descendants. Sarah has her hand
maid Hagar
to lay with Abraham in order that she may have a son. Hagar conceives
and began
to despise Sarah. Sarah in response treated her harshly and Hagar fled
into the
wilderness. An angel found Hagar beside a spring in the wilderness. The
angel
asks Hagar, “where have you come from and where are you going?” The
angel was
not inquiring for his own information, but for Hagar to consider the
direction
of her life. She was sent back to Sarah to submit to her authority.
When the
ways of a man please the Lord, He makes even his enemies at peace with
him (Pro
16:7). The Lord promised Hagar that she would have a son who would be
named
Ishmael, but he would be antagonize others and they would antagonize
him. It is
at this point that Hagar calls upon Elroi, or the God who sees. God saw
the
affliction of Hagar. He saw the abuse she had suffered. He saw the
desperate
situation she was in. He saw all of her past (“where have you come
from”) and
all of her future (“where have you come from”).
God is a God who sees. You are never
overlooked. Your situations never slip by Him. His eyes are never
closed for
sleep. He is sees all of what has happened to you in the past. He is
sees what
all of what is needed concerning your future and has made provision for
your
needs. He sees what you are doing when no one else does. He sees your
faithful
accomplishments when no one else does. He is able to see all of the
wounds
lodged in your soul from the hurts that have been inflicted upon you.
He saw
you before you were born and has numbered the hairs on your head. Paul
prayed
in his letter to the Ephesians, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may
be
enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called
you, the
riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his
incomparably
great power for us who believe”. Paul was praying that we would be able
to see,
the God who always sees.
